Comics

Comics and manga read beside the books, from the files you already have: CBZ, CBR, CBT and CB7, each with its cover on the shelf. A PDF, a folder of pages or a zip becomes a comic on your device, and nothing is uploaded to do it.
Read a page at a time, a two-page spread, or one long scroll for webtoons. Manga turns right to left: set it once and the pages and the swipe both follow. Pinch into a panel and a minimap shows where you are on the page. All of it free.

Keep your library where it already is. Point Tomen at the Dropbox folder your titles live in — a Calibre library, a decade of comics — and the whole shelf appears, sorted and searchable. Nothing downloads until you open a title, and access is read-only: Tomen can’t move, change or delete a thing you own.
Stop on the phone; the desk picks up at the line. Where you stopped, your highlights, notes and bookmarks, the words you saved, your tags, collections, pins and finished marks all travel between your devices. Your files never leave your device — only your reading does.

What people ask before they open it.
Is my reading private?
Your titles, progress and highlights live on your device. No ads, no tracking, nothing sold. Your files are never uploaded; sync moves only your reading and your shelf choices, scoped to your account.
Will it read my messy files?
That’s the point. Sideloaded EPUBs with broken metadata, odd encodings, big comic archives, and comic PDFs, which become comics on your device: Tomen is built for the files a real library accumulates. DRM-locked files are the one exception.
Will it read my Calibre library?
Yes. Add the folder and every book is copied in, free; or keep it in Dropbox and Tomen reads it in place, with Plus. Calibre’s shortened filenames come back as full titles. The Calibre page has the steps.
What happens if Tomen goes away?
You keep reading. The reader works offline, your titles are on your device, and one file backs up your whole library and restores it. If sync ever stopped, you’d lose a convenience, not a page.
Can I read with a screen reader, or with bigger type?
Yes, and none of it is an upgrade. The book is real text, read in its own language; the shelf announces each title and its place on it. Every size, line and width, Atkinson Hyperlegible, and your device’s reduced-motion and high-contrast settings, obeyed. Press ? for every key.
Which devices?
Any browser today — it installs as an app, works offline, and takes over your book files: double-click an EPUB, a Kindle file or a comic and it opens in Tomen. The Android app is on Google Play for phones, tablets and e-ink; the Windows app is in early access. One Plus purchase covers all of them.

I couldn’t find a reader I wanted to open.
I used to read a lot, and I wanted to get back into it. Every reader I tried was a store, a subscription, or a file browser. None of them made me want to pick up the next book.
